Governor Brian Kemp announced that Shriners Children’s is building a new place in Atlanta to help kids who are sick or hurt. It will be a research center, where smart doctors and scientists will work together to discover better ways to treat children.
Shriners Children’s has hospitals all across North America. They’ve already helped almost 2 million kids from all 50 states and even other countries. This new building in Atlanta will cost over $153 million and will create 470 new jobs!
The center will be built in a special area called Science Square, right across from Georgia Tech. Shriners will team up with schools like Georgia Tech and Emory University to work on exciting projects like:
- Helping kids who have trouble walking
- Fixing cleft lips and palates
- Healing burn injuries
- Using robots, AI (artificial intelligence), and gene therapy to find new treatments
