Madison County Democrats participate in Hands Off Venezuela protests

Madison County Democratic Committee members Dave Ramsey and Rick Fyock attend the “Hands Off Venezuela” protests in Athens on Monday. Members of the Madison County Democratic Committee (MCDC) joined more than 100 other people in Athens on Monday to protest the United States’ military action in Venezuela over the weekend. The protests drew people from across Georgia’s 10th Congressional District, who traveled to Athens to declare “Hands Off Venezuela” in response to the U.S.’s strike on Caracas on Saturday and President Donald Trump’s declaration that the U.S. will now “run” Venezuela. “This land-grabbing behavior is what starts worldwide wars,” said David Ramsey, Chair of the MCDC, a co-organizer of the protests. “If Congress won’t act, then the people themselves must resist.” Ramsey and Rick Fyock, another member of the MCDC, traveled to Athens to join more than 60 other people at the two-hour long protest on the corner of Alps Road and Baxter in Athens. A second 90-minute action at the University of Georgia Arch on Broad Street late in the afternoon drew another 65 people. “The Trump administration’s attack on Venezuela violated both the U.S. Constitution and international law,”
