Park Board : possibly no pool for 2026

Due to ever-growing expenses and upkeep the Forest Park pool is likely headed towards being closed for the 2026 season. Brazil’s public pool will likely not be in operation this year, Park Board President Elaine Clarke told fellow members and the audience at Tuesday evening’s meeting. According to Clarke, this development is due to the fact that neither the city of Brazil nor the YMCA have allocated money toward the pool. With this in mind, the Park Board took a proposal to re-model the restrooms there into a comfort station. “We’ll be money ahead to do that,” commented Parks and Recreation Superintendent Marv Moon, citing the infrastructure already in place at the restrooms. Moon also reported that he had taken an inventory of pool equipment and spoke with a potential buyer for some of the newer items. In October 2025, the City Council had discussed the possibility of discontinuing funding for the city pool as well as a variety of alternatives for the space it occupies, including an expanded splash pad.
