Crawford County Commissioners pass 6 – month moratorium on data centers

CRAWFORD COUNTY, Ga. — As several counties across Central Georgia debate whether to welcome or oppose data centers, Crawford County is putting a pause on any data center development for the time being. On Jan. 6, the County Commissioners’ office placed a six-month moratorium on data centers, delaying any data center permits from being accepted. The County Commissioners’ office said that the moratorium was unanimously passed with a 5-0 vote. They said the proposal was recommended by the Crawford County Planning & Zoning team. The moratorium allows for the commissioner’s office to work on resolutions, so that if a data center tries try and build in the county, they can be better prepared for it. The commissioner’s office itself said it is hoping that, by properly preparing, it can prioritize the safety of Crawford County residents. Crawford County will have an opportunity to look around Central Georgia to see what other data center proposals are being passed and debated.
