Three arrested in Lee Co . after drugs and explosive found in car , deputies say

Lee County after they were reportedly found in a disabled car with drugs, drug paraphernalia and weapons, according to deputies. Ruben Perez, 48, of Dothan, Alabama, is charged with: Dennis L. Weaver, 52, of Cairo, Georgia, is charged with: Michael T. Whigman, 56, of Cairo, Georgia, is charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. On the evening of Friday, Jan. 16, Lee County Sheriff’s deputies say they saw a broken-down car with a Georgia license plate in the area of Route 30 and Inlet Rd. in rural Amboy. A deputy reportedly stopped to help the stranded vehicle. When speaking to the three men, the deputy reported they saw items used for ingesting narcotics in plain view. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said members of the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad were called in to help with its investigation. The three were later arrested and charged. Perez is being held in Lee County Jail pending his first court appearance. Weaver and Whigman were released with a notice to appear in court at a later date. Copyright 2026 WIFR.
