Three superintendent candidates here Thursday

The three finalists for the job of Kodiak Island Borough School District Superintendent will be open for questions at a special candidate forum set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium. The forum will last an hour and will be facilitated by Association of Alaska School Boards Associate Executive Director Katie Oliver. The school board is inviting Kodiak residents to submit questions to ask the candidates, via a link on the district website: kibsd.org , scroll down to District News, the link is in the blue box. Two of the three finalists have Kodiak ties. — Dr. Miranda Bacha is a former Kodiak High School math teacher, who most recently served as principal at Mt. Edgecumbe High School in Sitka. She was recognized as the 2026 Alaska Region V (Southeast) Principal of the Year. Additionally, she earned a certificate in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Alaska Southeast. — Kim Hanisch served as KIBSD’s curriculum director for three years, 2016 to 2019 worked as curriculum director at KIBSD, and was superintendent at the Unalaska City School District from 2023 to this spring. Originally from South Dakota, she has worked across Alaska. B
