Madison County announces long – term SR 106 closure for bridge replacement project

There will be a long-term closure of State Route 106 at the Hudson River starting later this month as the Georgia Department of Transportation begins bridge replacement work in the area. Madison County drivers should prepare for a long-term closure of State Route 106 at the Hudson River starting later this month as the Georgia Department of Transportation begins bridge replacement work in the area. The Madison County Board of Commissioners said it has been formally notified by APAC-Atlantic Inc., working in coordination with GDOT, that SR 106 at the Hudson River will be closed to all traffic for about 210 days beginning Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, through Monday, Sept. 21, 2026. County officials said the closure will affect travel between Madison and Franklin counties and is needed to support construction tied to GDOT Projects PI0013808 and PI0016526. The work includes bridge replacements over Nails Creek and the Hudson River. A GDOT-approved detour will be in place for the duration of the closure. The normal route is 9 miles, but the detour will extend the trip to 14.3 miles, a net increase of 5.3 miles, according to the county. Detour signage will be installed in accordance with GDOT
