Former State Senator John F. Kennedy, who is running for lieutenant governor, and Coach Derek Dooley, who is running for state senate, introduced themselves and their candidacy at the monthly Troup GOP meeting. Kennedy is running for election as lieutenant governor of Georgia. He previously served in the Georgia State Senate, representing District 18 from Jan. 12, 2015, to Dec. 9, 2025. During his time in the Georgia State Senate, Kennedy was unanimously elected president pro tempore. As president pro tempore, Kennedy managed the chamber's administrative duties and served as the presiding officer when the lieutenant governor was absent.
