Walker County and the city of LaFayette will open warming shelters at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday for those impacted by the storm. The warming shelters will have cots, bottled water and snacks. Residents planning to stay overnight should bring their own bedding, including sheets, blankets, and pillows. Also at noon on Saturday, Nickajack Road and Dougherty Gap Road were closed to through traffic. Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will close Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center, Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center and Point Park due to potentially hazardous ice conditions, starting Saturday and through Sunday. The park plans to re-open once conditions allow employees to safely conduct a park assessment. The park is closing facilities out of an abundance of caution for the safety of park staff and visitors. The park encourages visitors and commuters to exercise caution when traveling on park roadways or traversing park grounds, especially during icy or snowy conditions as they can become extremely dangerous.
