A winter storm brought a mix of snow and ice to the D.C. area this past weekend. The City of Alexandria is resuming its enforcement of sidewalk snow removal beginning Tuesday. After last weekend’s snowstorm, the city paused enforcement of shoveling private sidewalks to allow people time to recover from the storm, the city said in a release. Now, they’re asking residents to clear snow and ice from sidewalks near residential properties, move vehicles on residential streets that have not been fully plowed and help neighbors that may not be able to shovel for themselves. According to the Alexandria city code , residents (homeowners and businesses) who fail to shovel snow and ice from paved sidewalks near their property with 72 hours of snowfall can face a $50 fine. The “essential water use only” request issued last week for Prince George’s and Montgomery counties in Maryland has been lifted.
