DOOLY COUNTY, Ga. ( WALB /Gray News) – A Georgia woman has been sentenced after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the death of her 4-year-old son. According to District Attorney Brad Rigby, Keara Sade Cotton, 31, was sentenced to serve 25 years in the Georgia Department of Corrections. She received her sentence on Wednesday, which would have been her son Jayceion’s 9th birthday. “I can think of no better justice for Jayceion than the conviction of his murderer on his birthday,” Rigby said. The Department of Family and Children Services said it attempted welfare checks on the child in early 2022 after Jayceion was reportedly missing for several months, but Cotton avoided contact and left the area. Cotton ended up disposing of her child’s remains by placing them in a shopping bag and a shower curtain and discarding them in a field behind a shopping center, authorities said. According to the district attorney’s office, Jayceion died in November 2021 while in Cotton’s care.
