Cobb on – demand transit is popular , but expensive to operate

MARIETTA — A popular program offering on-demand transit in south Cobb could be expanded to parts of Acworth and Kennesaw later this year, though the service would be expensive to maintain over the long term. CobbLinc Go, which provides on-demand trips in minivans for $2.50, already operates within a 26-square-mile zone in south Cobb. The “microtransit” service, which resembles rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft, has been operating for more than a year as a pilot program. It has proved far more popular than the old CobbLinc FLEX service it replaced. In December, a state agency overseeing transit agencies awarded $3.84 million to CobbLinc to expand the service to a new, 31-square-mile zone in Acworth and Kennesaw for a two-year pilot program. The Cobb Department of Transportation hopes to seek approval for a pilot program in the summer and launch the service this fall. The proposed zone in north Cobb includes the downtown areas of Acworth and Kennesaw, Kennesaw State University, Cobb County International Airport and Town Center Mall.
