North Carolina couple charged after child tests positive for drugs

A couple in Marion, North Carolina, has been charged after a child in their care tested positive for drugs, according to the sheriff’s office. On Jan. 13, detectives spoke with 39-year-old Bethany Taylor Hensley and 39-year-old Preston Ballew Hensley after a referral came from the McDowell County Department of Social Services. The parents consented to a child in the home being tested for narcotics exposure, which came back as positive. Bethany and Preston were then charged with felony exposing a child to a controlled substance. Bethany received a $75,000 secured bond while Preston was initially denied bond due to already being out on pretrial release. On Feb. 4, the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office executed a narcotics search warrant at the Hensley’s home in Marion, which resulted in detectives finding 17 grams of cocaine. According to deputies, both Preston and Bethany were charged with the following: The sheriff’s office said Bethany received a $20,000 bond while Preston was given a $25,000 bond.
