Homeland Security buys land for Oakwood ICE facility in $68M sale

Hall County with the intentions of turning a warehouse into an ICE detention center, property records indicate. According to the warranty deed, the federal government agreed to buy the land off Atlanta Highway in Oakwood, a city about eight miles south of Gainesville, for $68,162,500 on Feb. 18. The parcel previously belonged to CRP/AI Oakwood Owner LLC, a Delaware-based company. PREVIOUS COVERAGE: Residents oppose proposed ICE detention center in Hall County Rep. Andrew Clyde, who serves the 9th Congressional District that Hall County resides in, said the facility could house up to 1,600 people.
