BRANTLEY COUNTY, Ga. — UPDATE 8 PM: The National Interagency Fire Center has announced the fire has grown to 22,614 acres, making it now 6% contained. Those traveling along Hwy 82 on Monday morning are urged to use extreme caution when driving through Atkinson, Lulaton and Nahunta and further west, as a northeast wind direction will bring more smoke into the area. UPDATE 5 PM: Wayne County Emergency Management announced the fire had crossed over the county line, heading north. Wayne and Brantley County officials say fire activity is expected to increase over the next several hours. In a 5 p.m. update , the Brantley Sheriff’s Office said, “Fire lines along Boots Harrison Road down to Albert Gibson are holding at this time, helping slow progression in that area.” Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office said that crews both on the ground and in the air have identified and are working to contain hot spots and spot fires that crossed roadways, including areas near Highway 32. UPDATE 10:20 AM: The Southern Area Complex Incident Management Team says the fire has grown to 20,933 acres with only 7% contained on Sunday.
