If those predictions hold, that would mark the first time in 16 years a majority of states are governed by Democrats. “The DGA has a proven record of winning in battleground and deep red states and we are going on offense this year to expand the number of Democratic governors,” Olivia Davis, a spokesperson for the Democratic Governors Association, told Newsweek on Friday. “From what we’re hearing on the ground to polling (and yes, even prediction markets), all signs point to a growing energy to flip more seats and win more governorships across the country. We’re not taking anything for granted and we are going to continue to keep our foot on the gas to hold Republicans accountable from now until Election Day.” Newsweek also reached out to the Republican Governors Association for comment via email.
