State launches ‘comprehensive review’ of Richmond County DFCS

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Georgia officials are conducting a “comprehensive review” of operations at the Richmond County Division of Family and Children Services. It’s happening as “we constantly review and fine-tune our processes,” said Ellen Brown, director of the Office of Communications for the Georgia Department of Human Services. “We are also working alongside the Attorney General’s office for matters involving court-administration complaints and issues involving the State’s legal representation.” “In Richmond County, we continue to strengthen our collaborative approach to child safety by expanding partnerships with key mandated reporters and community stakeholders, including the school system, local hospitals, law enforcement agencies, behavioral health providers, juvenile court partners, the Department of Juvenile Justice, and community service organizations,” Brown said. “These enhanced partnerships will improve communication and help us identify children at risk of abuse or neglect sooner, as there is often overlap in working with families across these systems and organizations. We invite community partners to multidisciplinary meetings and other staff meetings we host to bolster these relationships.” Brown said that as a whole, the agency “remains committed to protecting children and supporting families with the resources they need to remain safe and stable.” Copyright 2026 WRDW/WAGT.
