Police arrest juvenile after threat against Metter High School students, staff and faculty

A juvenile was taken into custody and charged after authorities received a tip about a threat of violence against students, faculty and staff at Metter High School, police said. The juvenile, who is not a student at the school, faces charges of criminal attempt to commit murder and terroristic threats and acts, according to a statement from Metter Police Chief McKinley Lewis. The Metter Police Department’s Criminal Investigative Division acted on the tip and identified the person suspected of making the threat, Lewis said. Investigators traced the juvenile to an address within the Metter city limits and took the juvenile into custody. Police said investigators gathered evidence, interviewed people and consulted with the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice and the district attorney’s office for the Middle Judicial Circuit before filing charges. Authorities did not release the juvenile’s name or provide details about the alleged threat. The police department has remained in contact with the Candler County School District about the case. Lewis also shared information with Candler County Sheriff John Miles and the Sheriff’s Office investigations division because of the nature of the threat.
