Local roundabout dedicated in memory of college student

Butts County’s new roundabout on Georgia Highway 16 at England Chapel Road and High Falls Road has been named in honor and memory of Abigail Savoie, the 19-year-old Georgia College student who lost her life at the intersection in 2022. A Peachtree City resident, Savoie’s death was caused by a driver running a stop sign. Georgia District 25 Sen. Rick Williams, R-Milledgeville, was the main sponsor of Senate Resolution 770 908 that dedicates the roundabout in honor of Savoie. “Although the loss of this smart, energetic and beautiful soul can never be filled, her death called attention to the other numerous accidents at the intersection where her vehicle was struck and resulted in plans to convert the intersection into a safer roundabout, likely saving the lives of other motorists,” said Williams. The Georgia Department of Transportation unveiled signs that note the roundabout as The Abby Savoie Circle of Hope on Wednesday, Aug. 5. Supporters arrived early to hear President Donald Trump speak at Wheeler High School on Wednesday.
