The Madison County Water Department issued a drought awareness notice Aug. 14 following the Georgia Environmental Protection Division’s declaration of a Level 1 Drought Response for the area. The declaration extends an original notice issued April 27. No mandatory water-use restrictions are currently in place, but residents are encouraged to conserve water whenever possible, the department said. According to officials, residents can help conserve water by repairing leaks, limiting unnecessary outdoor watering, using water-efficient practices and operating washing machines and dishwashers only with full loads. The county will continue monitoring drought conditions and provide updates regarding any changes or potential water-use restrictions. Keep it Clean.
