Columbia County to receive millions in new FEMA funding

EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Columbia County is set to receive more than $1.5 million in new federal disaster funding. It’s part of a package U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock says will help Georgia prepare for hurricane season. A Georgia mother and Army veteran has built a free app she hopes will give parents and service members a single place to find safety resources, report abuse anonymously and get help in an emergency. Warnock’s office announced nearly $10 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for several Georgia communities. Columbia County will receive $1,575,000. Other recipients include Bryan County, the city of Springfield and the city of Pooler. Warnock said the money is intended to help communities keep residents and vital infrastructure safe during hurricanes and other disasters by adding “new systems to combat flooding and improved emergency communications.” Copyright 2026 WRDW/WAGT.
