BALDWIN COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) — Georgia College and State University (GCSU) is now being recognized as one of the top job creators and revenue boosters in the Baldwin County area. A University of Georgia study shows GCSU generated over $360 million in total revenue through Baldwin County and the surrounding counties in 2025, an 8.1% and $27 million jump from 2024. "Georgia College has long been the largest employer in Baldwin County, so as a public institution of higher education, we take that responsibility pretty seriously," said university president Cathy Cox. "So, we know we have a big impact on this county and our region, but we were delighted to see some numbers affixed to that status. They assume that for every job we have on campus and we have around a thousand jobs here at Georgia College, that probably two or more jobs are created in our region, and so the salaries and wages that are paid for those jobs keep pouring and reverberating into the region." Milledgeville and Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Kara Lassiter said businesses often mention that when the students aren’t in school, it can negatively affect their business and that they love what GCSU has been doing. Lassiter said, “I don't know what their master plan is, but we would love to see Georgia College continue to grow in their student population, because the more students that come here, the more people know about our community. So, I feel like people will see how great it really is.”…
