Trammell scholarship established at Mercer University

Former Coweta County educator Menlia Trammell has established an endowed scholarship at Mercer University in memory of her husband, Dr. Robert “Bob” Trammell. The Robert and Menlia Moss Trammell Endowed Scholarship will provide financial assistance to Mercer students majoring in English or communication studies who are in good academic standing. “Education was very important to me and to Bob. I can't think of anything that would make him happier,” Trammell said. Bob Trammell earned his bachelor’s degree in English from Mercer in 1960 and went on to a career in higher education, including 22 years as vice president for academic affairs at Macon College, now Middle Georgia State University. After retiring, he returned to his hometown of Luthersville, where he served as mayor from 1999 until his death in 2016. Menlia Trammell earned three degrees from Mercer and taught in several Georgia school systems, including Coweta County, where she also worked as a counselor. In retirement, she has written and published seven children’s books. Trammell said her son, Luthersville attorney Bob Trammell, suggested establishing the scholarship. Her daughter, Dr. Carmen Skaggs, a Mercer graduate and professor of English at Kennesaw State University, also supported the idea. The scholarship agreement was signed July 11.
