A few weeks ago, I received an email saying my picture hanging in the Governor’s office in Atlanta had to picked up by Tuesday, August 25. It was the picture which won the Georgia Council for the Arts Contest i n 2026. M y photos were usually displayed until the end of the year. It seems the Governor’s office is being redecorated and all of the Georgia photos won this year needed to be out of the way. I don’t know if this is for the incoming Governor or what, but either way, I really didn’t want to make a trip to Atlanta. I was hoping I could find another way to get my Great Blue Heron back home. I contacted State Representative Stephen Meeks. He said he could have it put in his office and bring it back in either September or October. Someone else mentioned maybe State Representative James Burchett could have it brought back to his Waycross office. I contacted Burchett and he happened to have someone (Drew Johnson) who worked for him and was going to be in Atlanta when the pictures were being taken down. Burchett said I could just come over to Waycross and pick it up. He loved the Great Blue Heron picture once he saw it. He wanted to purchase it for his office in Waycross, along with several others and also some for his office in the Capitol in Atlanta. Thankfully, I didn’t have to deal with driving in Atlanta! • Wayne Morgan is freelance wildlife photographer and author.
