Savannah's unemployment rate stands at 2.7%, the lowest in Georgia, according to Georgia Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. Georgia's statewide unemployment rate is 3.3%, below the national rate of 4.1%. Holmes said the numbers demonstrate Savannah's thriving economy and its ability to connect workers with growing job opportunities. "Savannah's unemployment rate is 2.7%. It is the lowest in the state, and so that shows that it is a very strong economic market, a very strong labor market, and we are connecting those hardworking Georgians to those jobs that are growing here," Holmes said. Major investments, including Hyundai's Metaplant in Ellabell, have brought the promise of thousands of jobs to the greater Savannah area. Holmes said the challenge now is ensuring local workers have the skills needed to fill available and emerging positions. "We still have employers who need more Georgians," Holmes said. "This is why ensuring that we're connecting Georgians to employers is so critical, and ensuring that we are driving these skilled pathways in our communities." Holmes said industries such as construction, healthcare, manufacturing, and technology are among those seeking skilled workers.
