Tift County gets $1M grant for Brunswick Avenue project – Tifton Gazette

Published 4:20 pm Tuesday, September 8, 2026 MOULTRIE — Tift County is among 42 recipients of federal grants announced Friday. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development allocates these funds annually to Georgia’s Community Development Block Grant program, which is administered by the Department of Community Affairs. Georgia’s CDBG program is available to non-entitlement local governments and specifically targets rural communities, the DCA said in a press release. After a competitive and thorough evaluation process, applications are scored, rated, and ranked. Grants are awarded based on overall merit, the DCA said. The most recent tranche totals $40.9 million to 42 communities across the state. Tift County will receive $1 million for street and drainage improvements in the Brunswick Avenue target area, the DCA said. The project will benefit 58 people, of whom 55 are low-to-moderate income. The total project cost is $3,589,342 with more than $2.5 million in local match funds, leverage and in-kind donations. Other awards went to nearby communities: — Ben Hill County, $1 million for street and drainage improvements. — Berrien County, $624,179 for street and drainage improvements. — City of Nashville, $1 million for water and sewer improvements.
