GSP: Man gives false name, flees troopers during Lowndes County traffic stop

LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — A man wanted on multiple arrest warrants was apprehended Saturday night, Oct. 24, after fleeing a traffic stop in Lowndes County, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP). Troopers say they stopped a vehicle around 8:15 p.m. on White Water Road near Fender Road after the driver failed to maintain her lane. While speaking with the driver, troopers say she admitted that a passenger in the back seat had instructed her to turn around earlier to avoid a law enforcement road check. According to GSP, the passenger initially provided a false name to troopers. After discovering his true identity, authorities learned he had several outstanding warrants for his arrest. The passenger, identified as Michael Blair, then fled on foot. Troopers say Blair was apprehended a short distance away. During the pursuit, a trooper deployed a Taser, but it was unsuccessful. After being taken into custody, Blair told troopers he had swallowed drugs, according to GSP. He was transported to South Georgia Medical Center (SGMC) for medical evaluation and was released for treatment. GSP has not released details about the outstanding warrants or specified what drugs Blair allegedly swallowed. The investigation remains preliminary. WALB has requested additional information regarding the incident. Stay with WALB for updates as more information becomes available. Have a news tip or see an error that needs correction? Let us know.
