School crossing guard hit by vehicle in front of Liberty County High School

HINESVILLE, Ga. (WTOC) – A Liberty County school crossing guard directing traffic was hit by a car in front of Liberty County High School on Friday, according to Georgia State Patrol (GSP). The guard was in uniform, wearing a reflective vest and a strobing lapel light flashing blue and red while directing traffic in an active school zone. The guard was stationed in front of the school, located at 3216 East Oglethorpe Highway. The vehicle was stopped in the left westbound lane of GA-38 at the direction of the guard, according to a GSP report. As the guard began to walk out of the road to release traffic, the vehicle accelerated. The front of the vehicle struck the guard on the right side of her body. The collision happened in the left westbound lane near Mile Marker 10. After hitting her, the vehicle came to a controlled final rest at the entrance to the high school. The guard walked out of the road and into the center turn lane of GA-38. These are preliminary details, as GSP said the collision is under an active investigation. Copyright 2026 WTOC.
