ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — About 1,800 pounds of marijuana were seized in Butts County on Monday, the sheriff’s office said. According to deputies, the shipment originated in Sacramento, California. Half the drugs were headed to Atlanta, while the other half were going to Orlando, Florida. Marijuana is legal in California, but only medical marijuana is legal in Georgia and Florida. “The illegal marijuana trade does not stop at the state line,” Sheriff Gary Long said. “We should learn from the experiences of states that have already gone down this road instead of repeating the same mistakes and then spending years trying to fix them.” The sheriff’s office did not say if any arrests were made in connection with the seizure.
