The Athens-Clarke County Police Department (ACCPD) responded to a multi-vehicle crash early Thursday morning, near the intersection of Highway 29 North and Talley Crossing, according to an ACCPD press release. Wayne Voyles, a resident of Hull, Georgia, was driving north in a southbound lane of Highway 29. Voyles crashed into another vehicle traveling southbound. The vehicle that he struck was pushed into another vehicle. The three drivers were transported by EMS to a local hospital. Voyles passed away at the hospital due to his injuries, and the other two drivers were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Voyles is the eighth death due to a car crash in Athens-Clarke County in 2026, according to the press release. There is an ongoing investigation into the incident.
