In a news release, the school district previously announced they were stopping all non-essential spending and hiring as a result of the issue. On Thursday, Chief Financial Officer for Bibb County Schools Eric Bush addressed the board, and broke down where the $5.5 million falls across departments, The money stems from salaries across multiple departments, including transportation, the Innovation and Technology Academy, security, and others. According to Bush, the district failed to account for additional duties from staff in these departments, such as bus drivers taking children on field trips or security working athletic events. He says the district also had trouble budgeting for attrition from employees leaving or retiring.
