Larry Walker of Perry has been unanimously elected president pro tempore of the Georgia State Senate at the start of the legislative session, the state senate press office says. “I am honored by the trust my fellow senators have placed in me to help lead the Georgia Senate,” Walker says in the press release. “We must keep Georgia on a path that rewards hard work, lives within its means and puts people ahead of politics.” Walker’s new duties as president pro tempore will include presiding over Senate sessions when the lieutenant governor is not present, and working to guide legislative efficiency. Since 2015, Walker has represented Georgia’s 20th Senate district, including Bleckley, Dodge, Dooly, Laurens, Treutlen, Pulaski, Wilcox and much of Houston County.
