Commissioners accept bid for Burg Road resurfacing

Butts County commissioners accepted a bid for the project to resurface Burg Road near the Henry County/Butts County line. Whether this includes the small section of the road that runs into the city limits of Jenkinsburg will be determined by whether or not the city agrees to pay for the cost of improving that stretch of road. Each year, the county receives Georgia Local Maintenance and Improvement Grants (LMIG) from the state to help pay for road, bridge and infrastructure improvements. In 2025, in addition to the main grant, the county received an additional supplemental grant of close to $667,942. Butts County Public Works Director Joey Lowe said these funds are dedicated to improve Burg Road in Jenkinsburg and Rock Creek Road in Flovilla. .Unlike the primary grant, the supplemental grant does not require the county to provide 30% matching funds. Plans are to widen Burg Road by two feet on each side from the four-way stop at Ga. Highway 42 to the Henry County line. Last May, the county estimated Jenkinsburg’s portion of the bill to be $173,000 and the county’s part to be $414,000.
