House Bill 1555, introduced March 16, would deannex a stretch of land along the Middle Georgia MegaSite corridor, a large tract of land purchased in 2022 for industrial development. The bill came after the Peach County Board of Commissioners unanimously passed a resolution in February asking their state delegation to introduce the legislation. Peach County Commission Chairman Roy Lewis said businesses interested in the corridor have raised concerns about higher taxes and zoning conflicts that come with being inside Fort Valley’s city limits.
