GBI arrests former Polk County police officer for allegedly misusing Flock camera system

Editor’s note: the above video is from previous coverage. ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A former Polk County police officer was arrested for allegedly misusing another department’s Flock license plate reader system, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). Tracey Royston, 51, of Cedartown, was arrested Friday by the GBI on four misdemeanor counts of misuse of a license plate reader system, the agency said. At the time of the alleged crimes, Royston was an officer with the Polk County Police Department, and was serving on the Northwest Georgia Drug Task Force, which is managed by the GBI. Because she was on the GBI task force, Royston had access to the Cedartown Police Department’s Flock Safety system. On July 31, Cedartown police asked the GBI to investigate allegations that the system was misused. The GBI said its preliminary investigation indicates that Royston accessed the Flock system multiple times between 2024 and 2025 for non-law enforcement purposes. Royston was booked into the Polk County Jail on Friday. She’s the latest north Georgia law enforcement officer to be accused of misusing Flock cameras. Recent cases have been reported in Coweta, Habersham, Fayette, Rockdale, Cherokee and DeKalb counties. This is a developing story.
