The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved fatal shooting in Cartersville, at the request of Bartow County Sheriff's Office. No BCSO deputies were injured. According to GBI's preliminary reports, about 6:30 a.m. Aug. 11, BCSO deputies responded to a "man pointing a gun at a McDonald’s employee" at 1370 Joe Frank Harris Parkway SE. "A deputy arrived on scene and located the man, later identified as Marcus Maurice Williams, age 31, of Cartersville, GA, in a nearby parking lot, still holding a gun," GBI's report stated.
