MONROE COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) — A Georgia State Patrol trooper is on administrative leave after he was charged with DUI in Monroe County. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) said it happened early Sunday morning, with a deputy responding to the scene of an accident along SR 42 North near Faulkner Road around 5:45 a.m. The responding deputy found a Toyota pickup truck in a ditch and a man in the driver's seat who later identified himself as Roger Graydon. According to an incident report, Graydon told the deputy that he was okay, but he fell asleep at the wheel and failed to stay in his lane. The deputy noted that Graydon's speech was slurred, and when he got out of the truck, the deputy could smell a strong alcoholic odor coming off of him. The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) later confirmed with WGXA that Graydon is a trooper with the Georgia State Patrol and was off duty at the time of the incident. DPS said Graydon has since been placed on administrative leave as they "hold [their] members to a high standard of conduct, both on duty and off duty."
