ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A Newnan man was arrested and charged after a domestic dispute with his teenage relative turned into an hours-long hostage situation on Tuesday, according to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies arrived at a home in the 2700 block of Highway 154 just before 4:30 p.m. after witnesses said Jeremy Head physically assaulted the 14-year-old family member and was holding her hostage, the sheriff’s office said. Coweta County authorities used SWAT and drone teams, enlisting Georgia State Patrol SWAT to assist in the response. With the help of hostage negotiators, the relative was able to escape the home after the suspect fell asleep about 8:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office said. SWAT members then entered the home, took the suspect into custody and booked him into the Coweta County Jail. Head is charged with battery, cruelty to children, false imprisonment, obstruction, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime and two counts of terroristic threats and acts, the sheriff’s office said.
