The lights and hopefully the A/C is back on in Royston and Franklin Springs this morning after both towns experienced a massive power outage. It happened Wednesday morning at about 9 a.m. when power to the entire area went out. According to Georgia Power, the outage was due to an issue at the transmission substation in Royston. Crews were on the scene quickly and were able to fix the problem and had power restored to both communities by around noon Wednesday. And with temperatures expected to continue in the 90s through the weekend, Georgia Power offers some tips to help you stay cool without heating up your power bill. · Adjust Thermostats: Raise your thermostat slightly and use ceiling fans to circulate cool air. · Shift Heavy Appliance Use: Run dishwashers, washing machines, and dryers outside of peak hours (before 2 p.m. or after 7 p.m.). · Block the Sun: Close blinds and curtains during the hottest parts of the day to keep natural heat out. · Maintain your HVAC System by changing your air filters monthly or every three months to keep airflow efficient.
