Published 11:33 am Tuesday, October 20, 2026 The death last month of a man in custody at the Baldwin County Jail for more than 130 days has been attributed to health-related causes, The Union-Recorder has learned. Baldwin County Sheriff Bill Massee identified the deceased victim as Kenta Roderick Hill, who had resided on the 100 block of Leroy Oliver Drive in Milledgeville before he was arrested on a probation violation charge. During a court appearance on Aug. 26, Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Amanda Petty sentenced Hill to remain in confinement until entry into an inpatient health treatment program approved by officials with the Georgia Department of Community Supervision, according to jail records. Massee said Hill experienced a medical episode and was helped by a jail nurse before he was taken by ambulance to Atrium Health Navicent Baldwin hospital in Milledgeville. The sheriff said he called for an investigation into Hill’s death by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 6 Investigative Office. Mary Chandler, special agent in-charge of the local GBI office said GBI Special Agent Scott Goodwin was assigned to the case and viewed an autopsy performed on Sept. 28 at the GBI Crime Laboratory in Dry Branch. Preliminary findings from the autopsy revealed Hill died from health-related causes. Hill had spent 132 days in the county jail before his death.
