Richmond County school officials came together Saturday to improve the relationship between parents and the school. Families from 11 Richmond County schools came together at Pine Hill Middle School for workshops, community connection, and access to resources. It was for the annual Parent University event. Community partners were also in attendance, including the Richmond County Sheriff’s office, which gave a safety presentation. The father of a nursing student who was killed on the University of Georgia’s campus has filed a lawsuit against the state’s university system and the apartment complex where the man convicted in her death was living. Organizers said it’s important for parents to get involved with their children’s school life because it sets them up for success. “Learning does begin at home from elementary, even before elementary years throughout high school. But having parents involved, it really changes the trajectory of the path for our students when parents feel welcome to come into our schools.
