Two former owners of Peachtree City flight school FLYT Aviation have been arrested on theft and racketeering charges following an investigation into allegations that student funds were misappropriated, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Alex Hamlin, 34, and Harlan Hamlin, 59, both of Peachtree City, each face 20 counts of theft by conversion and one count of violating Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, commonly known as RICO. Both men were booked into the Fayette County Jail on September 4, according to the GBI. The investigation began after the Peachtree City Police Department asked the GBI for assistance on February 12, 2025. FLYT Aviation had been sold to another owner in October 2024. After the sale, Peachtree City police began receiving complaints from flight students about financial discrepancies in their FLYT Aviation accounts, according to the GBI. Investigators allege that funds in several student accounts were misappropriated by Alex Hamlin and Harlan Hamlin while they owned and operated the flight school. The affected accounts included those belonging to students participating in aviation scholarship and financing programs, according to the GBI. The investigation remains active, and the GBI said additional arrests are expected.
