AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Newly obtained state records show a former Richmond County major, who was arrested last week, had decades of law enforcement experience, thousands of hours of training – and now has key certifications suspended. Major Robert “Robbie” Silas, who oversaw the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division, was arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on charges of pandering, solicitation of sodomy and violation of oath of office. He appeared in court less than 12 hours later and was granted a $5,000 bond. His status on the state profile is marked “POST Review Required.” His basic law enforcement certification, along with specialized certifications as a radar operator and laser operator, all show “Suspended (POST Sanction).” POST officials tell News 12 an investigation will be opened into Silas’ case; it just hasn’t been assigned to an investigator yet. Until that review is complete, Silas’ certifications remain in suspended status. The POST record also lays out Silas’ long career with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. It shows he was first hired as a peace officer in April 1987, later promoted to lieutenant in 1998 and then to major on Jan. 10, 2025. The employment history lists his end date as Aug. 31…
