ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team shot and killed a man armed with a sword on Wednesday after responding to a shooting, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). The man was identified as 53-year-old Bradley Cox. At around 6:30 p.m., deputies were called to the 3000 block of Connors Road in Villa Rica, where they found a man with a gunshot wound. They also saw another man, later identified as Cox, go into the home. A SWAT team was called, and deputies tried to negotiate with Cox, according to the GBI. When that didn’t work, they used tear gas to try to get him out. The SWAT team entered the home after Cox still refused to leave and encountered him in the hallway with a sword, the GBI said. Two SWAT deputies shot Cox multiple times, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Cox’s body will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. Law enforcement has not yet said what caused the initial shooting. The GBI typically investigates shootings involving law enforcement officers. This is a developing story.
