Three candidates race for Georgia Senate District 12 seat after Powell Sim resignation

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Three candidates are competing in the May Primary Election to represent Georgia’s Senate District 12 following the resignation of longtime State Sen. Freddie Powell Sims , who stepped down earlier this year due to her husband’s illness. Republican Terrance Fowler was running for the Senate seat, but has since been deemed ineligible by a judge. The race, which will now be final in May, features Camilla City Councilmember Corey Morgan, Albany firefighter and community leader Tracy Taylor, and Edward Brown, who has received Sims’ endorsement. Corey Morgan , a two-term elected official in Camilla, said his experience in local government and time working with the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus sets him apart. His campaign focuses on affordability, including lowering utility costs and expanding access to workforce housing.
