New Dalton Factory Boosts Glue Production Capacity

Something exciting just happened in Dalton, Georgia. A company called Q.E.P. just opened a big new glue-making factory. They make a special kind of glue called “adhesive,” which is used to help floors stick to the ground. This glue is very important when people build homes, stores, or schools and want the floor to stay put.

To celebrate the new factory, the company held a ribbon-cutting party. That’s when people cut a big red ribbon to show something new is opening. A lot of people came, including workers, company leaders, and even people from the city of Dalton. The city was happy because this factory means more jobs and good news for the town.

What’s So Special About the New Factory?

The new factory has cool new machines that make it work faster and better than before. The factory can now make 18,000 gallons of glue in just one shift (that’s about 8 hours). Before, it would take all day to make that much glue. Now they can do it in half the time!

The new machines include:

  • Big tanks to hold the glue
  • Mixers to stir it all up
  • High-tech production lines to pour and package the glue so it’s ready to send to stores

All of this helps Q.E.P. make more glue, faster and better than before.

Why Dalton, Georgia?

Dalton is known as the “Flooring Capital of the World.” That means a lot of companies in Dalton make carpets, tiles, and things you walk on. So it makes sense for a glue company like Q.E.P. to build a factory there—it’s right where a lot of their customers are!

The city of Dalton even thanked Q.E.P. for building the new plant and helping the local economy.

Who Helped Make This Happen?

Q.E.P.’s leaders, including their Chief Operating Officer, Herbert Maertl, worked hard to make this dream come true. He said they wanted to build a smart, modern factory in Dalton and they did it with hard work, teamwork, and support from the community.

Even while the factory was being built, the old factory kept working. They never stopped making glue, and customers kept getting their orders on time. That’s pretty impressive!

The President and CEO of Q.E.P., Len Gould, also spoke at the event. He said he’s proud of the team and how this new factory helps the company grow. He also pointed out something interesting: many other glue companies are owned by big foreign businesses or private money groups. But not Q.E.P.—they are American-owned and proud of it!

That’s why they call themselves: “Roberts is truly the American Adhesive Company™.”

About Q.E.P. (That’s the Company Name)

Q.E.P. started in 1979—that’s over 40 years ago! They make tools, glue, and other things people use when they’re installing new floors. Their products are sold in stores all over the world under brand names like:

  • QEP®
  • ROBERTS®
  • LASH®
  • Capitol®
  • Brutus®
  • Homelux®
  • PMM (Premix-Marbletite®)

The company is based in Boca Raton, Florida, but they also have places in Canada, Asia, and other parts of the U.S.

Pros and Cons of the New Factory

Even exciting news like this has both good and not-so-good parts. Let’s take a look.

Pros (Good Things)

  • More Glue, Faster: The new machines help Q.E.P. make twice as much glue in less time.
  • American Jobs: The factory helps create jobs and keeps production in the United States.
  • Helping Dalton Grow: It supports the local economy in a city already known for flooring.
  • New Technology: The factory uses the latest machines to make sure the glue is made just right.
  • Team Success: The workers and leaders worked together for over 3 years to make this happen.
  • Always On Time: Even during construction, Q.E.P. never stopped making or shipping glue.
  • Supports Local Customers: Being near other flooring businesses helps everyone work better together.

Cons (Things to Think About)

  • Big Investment: It cost a lot of money and took over three years to finish.
  • Pressure to Keep Up: With bigger machines, workers may have to learn new things quickly.
  • Not All Glue Companies Are Local: Even though Q.E.P. is American-owned, other companies they compete with are not—which can be tough in the market.
  • Factories Use Energy: Bigger factories can use a lot of electricity and water, which could impact the environment if not handled carefully.

Final Thoughts

Q.E.P.’s new glue factory in Dalton is a big win for the company and the community. They now have the power to make more glue, faster, and serve their customers all across the country. It’s also a sign that American manufacturing is still going strong.

The workers, leaders, and the town of Dalton should all feel proud. It’s not easy to build something new, but when people work together, amazing things can happen—like a factory that turns 18,000 gallons of glue into new floors for homes, schools, and stores across America.

So next time you walk across a floor, remember—there might just be some Q.E.P. glue under there, holding it all together!
