New Kids’ Medical Research Center Coming to Atlanta

Governor Brian Kemp announced that Shriners Children’s is building a new place in Atlanta to help kids who are sick or hurt. It will be a research center, where smart doctors and scientists will work together to discover better ways to treat children.

Shriners Children’s has hospitals all across North America. They’ve already helped almost 2 million kids from all 50 states and even other countries. This new building in Atlanta will cost over $153 million and will create 470 new jobs!

The center will be built in a special area called Science Square, right across from Georgia Tech. Shriners will team up with schools like Georgia Tech and Emory University to work on exciting projects like:

  • Helping kids who have trouble walking
  • Fixing cleft lips and palates
  • Healing burn injuries
  • Using robotsAI (artificial intelligence), and gene therapy to find new treatments

The goal is to make life better for kids all over the world.

✅ Pros:

  • Helps find new ways to treat sick or injured kids
  • Creates lots of jobs for scientists, doctors, and workers
  • Brings a huge investment to Georgia
  • Partners with top universities to share smart ideas
  • Makes Atlanta even more famous for healthcare and science

❌ Cons:

  • The center will take over a year to build
  • Jobs may need special training or college degrees
  • The state may be offering incentives (like tax breaks), but details weren’t shared
