The sheriff’s office said the student arrived with the handgun about 8:15 a.m. Thursday and showed it to a classmate, who immediately reported it to a teacher. The teacher notified the principal, who searched the student, confiscated the weapon and escorted the child to the school office, officials said. A school resource officer then secured the handgun. Investigators said the gun had a loaded magazine but no round in the chamber. The Hall County School District notified families that students were safe and said there was “no indication” the child intended to harm himself or others, according to the sheriff’s office.
