TWIGGS COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Nineteen people have been indicted following a year-long investigation into a dogfighting operation in Twiggs County, according to the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office. In a Monday news release, deputies said the indictments were returned February 26 by a Twiggs County grand jury after an extensive investigation led by the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Office of the District Attorney. The indictments accuse the defendants of participating in organized dogfighting activities in violation of Georgia law. According to the release, the case involved surveillance, the execution of search warrants, the recovery of animals and the collection of evidence tied to animal cruelty and illegal dogfighting practices.
