Community pushes to preserve Greenville – Pickens Speedway from demolition

Residents of the Upstate, racing enthusiasts and community leaders are invited to attend a rally in support of saving the historic Greenville-Pickens Speedway. Earlier this month, Pickens County leaders voted on the next phase of an industrial park that would include a building on the site of the racetrack, requiring the removal of the speedway. After not receiving a two-mile and 20-year traffic study, the Pickens County Planning Commission voted unanimously against the project. However, the door for the project is still open, as developers are able to reapply if the track is not sold beforehand . Organizers said the upcoming rally, which has been called “Save the Speedway,” will take place at District Park, 201 Kay Drive, Easley, South Carolina, on Saturday, April 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Keep up with what’s happening around our area by downloading the WYFF News 4 app on the App Store or Google Play.
